On Tuesday 12 November 2013, twelve young leaders met with the President of the Republic of France, Mr. François Hollande, who invited them to discuss youth employment in Europe. YEPP was represented in the meeting by its president, Konstantinos Kyranakis who spoke about the importance of lower taxation for small businesses.
YEPP and Jeunes UMP worked on an implementation plan for France based on the first proposal of the ‘3-step plan’, which you can find here.
The meeting took place just before the ‘Youth Employment’ summit in Paris, organised by the French President and attended by the Heads of State of 24 European Union member countries. President Hollande pledged to examine the proposal and its possible implementation in France.
Konstantinos Kyranakis stated:
‘Europe is the highest taxed area in the OECD, consequently decreasing in competitiveness while making it impossible for the European middle-class to prosper, small businesses to survive, and young people to find jobs. We decided to suggest this simple proposal which can be implemented with a simple law and which can produce results in the first year. We call on the French President to drop plans for costly social programmes that lead to more unemployment and to implement real job creation policies, such as the one YEPP and Jeunes UMP suggested today’.
Jonas Haddad, National Secretary of Jeunes UMP stated:
‘France under the presidency of François Hollande is failing to deliver on his two main electoral promises and priorities, youth and employment. There are successful practices in Germany which we have continuously called on him to implement in France, but instead taxes simply continue to rise. The proposal which was drafted together with YEPP is just one suggestion that can boost job creation in France again. We will hold our ground against any policies which are created by the same failed method as used by this government in the past and will continue our fight for better representation of young French people.’
