Brussels, Belgium – Today, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, presented the EU budget and Recovery proposal to the European Parliament. During this meeting, the Recovery Plan titled #NextGenerationEurope, which brings forward a total of €750 billion to aid in the complete recovery of the union, was introduced. This recovery proposal will increase the total MFF for 2021 to 2027 to €1.85 trillion, significantly increasing the EU Budget.

YEPP President and MEP Lidia Pereira affirmed that, “Member states must come together to ensure that these ambitious plans come to fruition to protect and strengthen the European economy today and tomorrow.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected Europe, by placing a strain on economies, healthcare systems and the way in which people interact and work together. These last months have tested the European people, the market as well as the governing powers. Therefore, it is crucial that the recovery plan brought forward is substantial and ambitious, in order to overcome this crisis and its imminent effects.

The EU project must continue to protect the various sectors, without neglecting to support all member states during these turbulent times. People have followed the various guidelines presented by the authorities in order to curb the consequences of the virus and minimise the impact on the EU. It is necessary that a message of solidarity and togetherness is sent out, not only to the world but specifically to the European people.

This is the second crisis that this young generation will be facing, and consequently it is essential that the plan is adopted by the Council to ensure that millennial’s have the same opportunities to improve their lives as previous generations did.

#Together we go further. Together we will build #NextGenerationEurope.
