The Youth of the European People’s Party (YEPP) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights, all of which are foundational to Albania’s aspirations for European Union membership. With deep concern, we address the pressing challenges undermining Albania’s democratic fabric.
Firstly, we are alarmed by the lack of robust democratic institutions in Albania. As highlighted in the EPP Malta Political Assembly’s resolutions, adherence to democratic principles and the rule of law is essential for EU accession. Albania’s governance must ensure accountability, transparency, and inclusivity at all levels to uphold these values.
Secondly, we acknowledge the severe issue of youth emigration. Many young Albanians are leaving due to limited economic opportunities and dwindling trust in the political system. This exodus threatens Albania’s future potential and underscores the urgent need for reforms to create a prosperous and hopeful environment for the next generation.
Furthermore, we condemn the suppression of opposition voices by the government. The right to a fair political competition is not only a hallmark of democracy but a necessity for Albania’s EU integration journey. The European People’s Party has consistently called for respect toward all political entities and adherence to democratic norms.
YEPP stands firmly alongside the Democratic Party of Albania and its youth forum, in its struggle to restore democratic governance and address these critical issues. We commend its steadfast dedication to the European integration process, which aligns with the values enshrined in past EPP resolutions on Albania.
Albania’s future as a strong, vibrant democracy within the European family depends on immediate and concerted actions to tackle these challenges. YEPP urges the Albanian authorities to honor their commitments to the EU accession framework and ensure that democratic institutions and principles are preserved and strengthened.
Together, we envision an Albania that fully embodies European values—a nation where democracy thrives, opportunities abound, and all citizens can realize their aspirations within their homeland.
