Ahead of EU Summit on Greece: A call for unity

Youth of the European People's Party

Ahead of tonight’s EU Summit, the Youth of the European People’s Party calls for unity. Europe and the success of the post-war European project, the most successful experiment of the 20th century, is at a crossroads again. Europe’s nation states have faced difficulties before, either collectively or individually. Nevertheless, Europe has only become stronger as time goes on.
We are appealing to all sides involved to negotiate with a broader context in mind. The historical responsibility entrusted upon them by the younger generations should act as an incentive to find a solution. We call on Greek PM Tsipras to place the future of Greece above partisan calculations at home, to place country over party. Together, all sides must place Europe above all. We call on EU Leaders to work hard for a fair agreement in tonight’s EU Summit, an agreement that will not compromise the unity of our Union.
